1. If a company promises to fix your credit overnight, do not commit. As previously mentioned, there is no such thing. Any legitimate credit repair company will tell you that it will take a considerable amount of time and effort to process the restoration of your credit.
2. If a company asks for payment before they deliver what they have promised, do not give them your money. Federal law requires credit repair firms to present to you a detailed explanation of your legal rights and a clearly written contract.
3. If a company advises you to create a new credit identity, do not follow. This practice is called “file segregation†and it is illegal.

Fast Credit Repair – Credit Repair – Is It Really Possible That Credit Fixing Companies Truly Can Promise Great Results?
Can a credit repair company assure results? Definitely not! That is like a brain surgeon guaranteeing that you will not die on the operating table. Any credit repair company that guarantees that they can improve your credit score or specifically remove detrimental information from your credit report is lying for 2 reasons.
First, the regulation says that credit repair companies CANNOT assure RESULTS. They can clarify what they hope to achieve and how they will go about achieving it, but they cannot assure to remove adverse items from your credit report. There is no official training or education required to own a credit repair company. This means that you take your odds when you employ one.
Even if you do find a credit repair company with years of experience in the industry, they cannot guarantee results. While there exist several ethical and competent credit repair companies, there are many more that are fly by night companies. For years, theunscrupulous credit repair companies made guarantees that they could not deliver on. As a end result, the FTC intervened and set up recommendations to guard consumers from unscrupulous credit repair firms.
The 2nd reason that credit repair companies cannot guarantee results is because it is an arbitrary process, that is not based on any hard and fast rules. Credit repair is contingent upon the system employed and the experience of the particular person doing the repairing. Even the most well intentioned credit repair professional may not achieve any results if they are not using a top rated credit repair system. Unfortunately, there are quite a few credit repair systems in existence that are unsuccessful and outdated.
The only way to guarantee results is by making use of a credit repair company that combines well written materials that are up to date, and offers added support to get you through the process. You do not have to be a credit repair professional toobtain a credit repair system of this caliber. Any consumer can acquire good quality credit repair systems, for A FRACTION OF THE COST of employing a credit repair company.
Before you hand over a thousand dollars to a credit repair organization for services that cannot be assured, look at restoring your own credit. Tens of thousands of consumers just like you are repairing their own credit for a FRACTION of the cost and with far better results.
It is recommended that you pick a credit repair system that offers more than credit repair form letters. An effective credit repair system comes complete with current and particular dispute tactics, up to date practices on specific creditors and credit reporting agencies and ongoing help. There are not many credit repair systems on the market today that provide a credit repair package with all of these necessary components.

Bad credit repair pitches and promises lead uninformed dreamers to get scammed and sued.
Warning: If you still believe in the Tooth Fairy and spammy credit repair pitches, don’t read this. I don’t want to be the guy who bursts your bubble or throws the truth at you.
What am I talking about?
Daily, car ads fill your TV screen with small print when advertising 0% financing and $40 bazillion cash back. Oh wait, there’s more: they’ll give you 300% Kelly Blue Book for your clunker.
It’s all true, right?
Of course it’s true…until you read the super-small print demanding a magnifying glass.
Guess what, credit (dis)repair offers are no different.
These “experts” get you all excited about some “magic pill” letter that only requires a $.42 cent stamp and you’re good to go.
Today, a lady named Jayne, who’s on my Credit-Success list, emailed me.
The other day, Jaynereceived an email from a credit repair company offering Jayne a FREE letter for “stopping debt collection calls”.
Jayne thought it sounded too good to be true.
What I told Jayne is what I’m about to tell you: the letter is real…that’s simply Fair Debt Collection Practices ACT (FDCPA).
The problem with this LETTER and EMAIL she passed me from this credit repair company is more serious than a letter that seems too good to be true.
THE SMALL PRINT SAYS IT ALL!
You have the right under FDCPA to inform a debt collector you do NOT want to receive phone calls. In fact, here’s the sample “Do Not Call” letter Jayne received from this credit repair “expert” (see below):
Debt Collector – Do Not Call
City, State, ZIP
City, State, Zip
Re: Acct # XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX
I would like to request in writing, that no telephone contact be made by your offices to my home or to my place of employment. If your offices attempt telephone communication with me, including but not limited to computer generated calls and calls or correspondence sent to or with any third parties, it will be documented and considered harassment. All future communications with me must be done in writing and sent to the address noted in this letter by USPS.
Now, here’s what the credit repair “expert” either does NOT know to tell you or “forgot” to tell you about firing off this type of letter.
And these TWO overlooked points might just put you in HOT water:
1. BEWARE contacting a debt collector. Any time you contact a debt collector by phone or mail, you risk further collection activity. By sending a letter, you acknowledge you’re getting theircalls. Are you prepared to be sued?
Suggestion: Before you fire off a “do not call” letter or make any type of contact with a debt collector, you must understand your state’s laws about resetting statute of limitations. You also need to know if the debt collector (aka “Furnisher”) is reporting your account 100% accurately.
Suggestion: You might consider programming your phone not to ring when the debt collector’s automated calls come in, whether at work or at home.
2. BEWARE recording a phone call! In the credit repair “expert’s” email, this credit repair “expert” advises you to record a debt collector’s calls & conversations. Let me be very clear: know your state’s laws about recording phone calls. If you are simply turning all debt collection phone calls to a voice recorder, that’s one thing (debt collectors usually will not leave a detailed message because most will not incriminate themselves).
More importantly, in many statesit’s ILLEGAL to record a phone conversation without the express permission of the party with whom you’re speaking.
Suggestion: If you’re compelled to send a “do not call” letter to the debt collector, insert a statement in the letter you send certified mail, return receipt requested informing the debt collector all calls regarding this alleged debt will be recorded (that is, all calls to you at home, at work & to neighbors or family members debt collectors might call to try to intimidate you).
What is your experience with debt collection phone calls? Which debt collector gave you a hard time? What did you do about it? Please share any experience, question or comment about about misleading credit repair pitches, debt collectors and/or credit disrepair companies.
Bad credit repair pitches ALWAYS sound great to uninformed people. Unfortunately, credit repair pitches can be more dangerous than the misleading car ads filled with small print“gotchas.” This debt collector “do not call” letter offered FREE should come with a HUGE disclaimer for you to use at your own risk. As you may or may not know, many credit repair scammers and opportunists make a fortune selling hype and miracle cures. They may very well just how lazy, uninformed & desperate most people are about repair credit fast promises.

For the last 5 or 6 years I’ve been telling friends and family how ugly of an industry credit repair and debt settlement is getting to be. I’ve also said that sooner or later the FTC would shake out the bad apples making it a safe place for consumers again.
It looks like my prediction was wrong. It’s gotten worse…much worse. And faster than I thought, too.
Regulatory bodies have cracked down as much as they can, but so far their efforts have been in vain. With the current economy, the housing market collapse and bankruptcies soaring, it’s just too much temptation for the scam artists of the world to resist.
To make matters worse, it’s not just the typical opportunists popping up to ride the wave of opportunity. Some of the larger firms have tried to grow so fast that they’ve thrown away the true value in their services and turned themselves into worthless chop shops in order to make a quick dollar.
The fast buckmoney makers aren’t what scare me so much though. Typically with any amount of common sense they’re not too hard for the consumer to spot. It’s the larger firms with churn and burn tactics that scare me and here’s why.
A few years ago there weren’t too many real credit repair companies out there. The legitimate ones were actually able to do a good job. Thus, they racked up some nice testimonials, affiliations and word of mouth.
However, in an effort to grow too fast and capitalize on this poor economy, some of them have thrown value and results out the window and replaced it with overseas outsourcing, dispute templates and poor service – yet still hide behind the accolades they earned years ago when they actually provided a real service.
Here is what I’d look for in any credit repair company, despite their past record.
Warning Sign 1) Horrible Reputation:
In my opinion there is no excuse for a BBB complaint (perhapsone or two) in this industry and here’s why. We don’t charge a lot of money for our services. On average a legitimate credit repair company should charge anywhere from 35 to 90.00 per month max.
Before any complaint escalates to the level of a BBB intervention the consumer will contact the credit repair company with their complaint. At that point the company has an opportunity to make it right. Any company who values a couple dollars over a consumer’s trust and their reputation is not a company I would do business with.
Your Solution to a Horrible Reputation:
To check the record of any company go to the BBB’s website and simply type in their web address and you can see their track record whether they are members or not.
Warning Sign 2) Overseas Outsourcing:
Here’s the scary one to me. A current trend in the industry for some of the larger credit repair companies is outsourcing the work overseas to places like India, Nicaraguaand Russia. Now let me say I don’t have a problem with these places or the people in particular.
However, it’s just a simple fact that the security and regulation may not be up to our standards and it’s something you should know about before you sign up.
When you sign up with a credit repair company here in the United States and give them your most precious information, wouldn’t you like to know before hand that your credit file is being faxed overseas?
Your Solution to Overseas Outsourcing:
Before signing up with any credit repair company simply ask them point blank. Does any part of their work get outsourced overseas? If so, I personally wouldn’t hire them.
Warning Sign 3) Partial Repair:
99% of every client we’ve ever had needs intervention on all levels. That means disputes with the credit bureaus, collection Agencies, Attorney’s and all of the original creditors. Most companies are only disputing on thecredit bureau level (see generic template paragraph above…)
I would have to look long and hard for a client who didn’t need us to contact collectors or attorney’s, or negotiate their debts. I don’t think we’ve ever had a client who a letter to the credit bureau – ONLY – fixed all their problems.
Your Solution to Partial Repair:
Simply ask them this… Will you contact the collection agents, attorney’s and negotiate my debts if necessary? If they won’t, you’re not getting everything you probably will need to fix your credit.
Warning Sign 4) Worthless Dispute Templates:
Same problem as always. Generic dispute templates that are used over and over for every client are next to worthless. Do you seriously think the credit bureaus can’t spot them a mile away?
Your Solution to Worthless Dispute Templates:
Simple! Ask them for a copy of any letter before it goes out. They are disputing on your behalf youhave the right to know what they are saying, if it looks something like this. I would drop them like a bad habit.
‘I just pulled my credit report and am disappointed that you have errors. I was never late on this account, under the laws of the FCRA please update that to never late and send me a copy of my new report’
The template changes a little here and there but you get the picture. If it doesn’t look completely unique to your personal credit file, it’s a template and a waste of your money.
Warning Sign 5) Being Left in the Dark:
Credit Repair companies charge you by the month (at least the legitimate ones do) and obviously milking your account for as long as possible is in their best interest.
You need to be able to track when and what is being done on your behalf by these companies. Credit bureaus and collection agencies have 30 days plus mail time to respond to all disputes. If the credit repair company doesn’thave a backend you can track exact timelines then you’ll never know if an extra week or two or three is being added to your account.
Solution to Being Left in the Dark:
Personally, I would opt for a company that has a backend you can log onto 24/7 and track notes, progress etc. Otherwise, you just have to hope you’re not being ripped off.
The above are the most common red flag warnings I see. No matter who you choose to repair your credit I would ask every one of those questions and research every item there.
That and a little common sense and you should do fine.

Fast Credit Repair – Legitimate Credit Repair Companies – Is Your Credit Repair Company Legitimate Or Not?
With respect to the huge success gained by the settlement and repair companies, a lot of illegitimate companies have come into existence. The sole motto of these companies is to attract customers and extract money from them. You will never get any benefit from them and it will just be a waste of time and money. Please beware of these companies and avoid any such firm to handle your proposal.
It has been reported that many people fall prey to fake and illegitimate companies and end up getting no returns. The biggest concern here is how to get hold of a legitimate credit repair company. Here are few simple steps to cross verify your selection:
1. The first and easiest step to verify the depth of any repair service is to observe the promise made by them. Ideally, it takes somewhere around 1 year for any firm to get ratings on track. So, if your company is making unbelievable promises and trying to pacify you by offering something unrealistic, you should avoidthem or strike them off from your list.
2. All the repair companies have a few procedures in common while some are plan specific. You should note that those in common should be a part of the working process of the repair company. If they don’t have any clear method of work, or they don’t show you a proper documented plan for credit repair, you should be careful.
3. You can start collecting reviews regarding the reputation of the company. The best place to refer for such data is the internet and search engines. Try to find out all possible details about the organization and dig out their previous history. Find out how many clients they have handled and how successful they were.
4. Finally, you can easily get access to the old customers handled by these companies. You can go forward and speak to the old customers and note their experiences. If the feedback is good, you can be confident; or else you should reconsider your decision.
Finding legitimate creditrepair companies is not a tough job when you have such huge resources available. You just have to learn how to utilize them properly and make the most of it.

Fast Credit Repair – Credit Repair Information – Negative Credit Items – What They Are and How to Eliminate Them
A person goes to a credit repair company and gives their credit repair information so that they could get their credit scores increased. But doing this would be a problem. One cannot make the negative credit items disappear legally. However the inaccurate items can be removed. But sometimes these negative credit items would negatively affect the credit rating. Let us see how to remove the negative credit items and increase the credit items.
When it comes to the negative credit items, the fair credit reporting act comes to help. They place the requirements from the creditors. These creditors report to Equifax and trans-union. The accurate credit information is required by them to investigate and resolve disputes and they are also required to correct any information that may be wrong. They do not catch all the errors and they also do not double check every charge. This is because they process millions of transactions and thus it is very natural for errors to occur. Itis not the creditor’s job to review the items for accuracy. This is the job of the credit repair agency. They have to find the inaccurate items and rectify them.
Once the credit report is reviewed the inaccurate items have to be looked for. The inaccurate items may be a bill that was reported late but was paid in time or some false charges or there might be some payments that were made but was missed. These are some of the examples of the errors that could occur and affect the credit score negatively.
Once they are spotted, the creditor should be contacted with the disputes. The creditor should be able to resolve the dispute in 30 days time. However an extension of 15 days is allowed if there is some additional information required and if it would require more time. This process could even take a longer time. So, one has to be very careful with this. If there are any items on the list that could not be validated, then the item would be removed and the change would bereported to the credit agency.
